Sad news for The Turning Page Co-operative

The Directors of The Turning Page Co-operative Ltd have been informed that the owners of The Turning Page Bookshop have accepted an offer from a private buyer. A counter offer is not a feasible option for the Co-operative.

Unfortunately, this means that the Co-operative will be disbanded as its purpose, which was explicitly to purchase The Turning Page Bookshop, no longer exists. We intend to refund memberships by the end of this financial year

Please be patient, as dismantling the Co-operative and reconciling the accounts will take time. We will keep our members updated throughout the process. These next steps will be undertaken by the Co-operative and not The Turning Page Bookshop.

We will also provide an option for members to direct the $100 share fee to the Co-operative wind-up costs and our donation to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation in lieu of a refund.

Since our first meeting, we have received nothing but support from our community and book-lovers across the country. There was a passionate and excited belief in the co-operative option. Publishers and bookshop industry leaders were thrilled about the proposal that would have seen the country’s only co-operative bookshop here in the Blue Mountains.

We want to sincerely thank everyone who purchased shares and who encouraged and supported us throughout this process.

The happy news is that the bookshop will stay open for the community.

Sincerely,

Virginia Fortunat (chair), Margo Adelson, Ron Fuller, Katie McRobert and Sarah Mason

About Us

The Turning Page Bookshop has been a key part of the lower Blue Mountains community for more than 35 years. The Co-op was formed to buy the bookshop for the community - and if successful, it would have been Australia's only co-operative bookshop.

Sadly the initiative has not succeeded - please see the message above. If you are already a member, please check your emails for updates from the Board regarding dissolution of the Co-op.
